Rangers Manager Bruce Bochy Moves Up All-Time Wins List

Bruce Bochy is just outside the top 10 in all-time managerial wins after the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals on Monday.

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy is now No. 11 all-time in managerial wins after their 11-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday.

With the victory, Bochy won the 2,009th win of his career, passing the legendary Leo Durocher. Bochy tied Durocher on Sunday when the Rangers beat the Chicago Cubs 8-2.

Bochy said after the game that he never met Durocher.

"It's an honor to be doing this as long as I've been doing it," Bochy said. "He's a big baseball name. It's pretty cool for me. It's not something I thought about. You hear a name like that and you're glad to be in the same area."

Next on the list is former Dodgers manager Walter Alston, who is No. 10 on the all-time list. Alston won 2,040 games in his career.

Bochy, who is in his first season with the Rangers, entered the season with 2,003 wins from his 25 seasons with the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants, leading the latter to three World Series titles.

During his final season with the Giants he became the 12th manager in history to reach 2,000 wins.

Bochy started his career with the Padres in 1995, replacing Jim Riggleman. Bochy won 951 games with San Diego between 1995-2006, which included four National League West titles and a trip to the 1998 World Series. The Padres lost to the New York Yankees.

Bochy moved to the Giants for the 2007 season and remained there until 2019. He led San Francisco to two NL West titles, four playoff appearances and three World Series titles in 2010, 2012 and 2014. The first championship came at the expense of the Rangers.

He won 1,052 games with the Giants before he stepped away from the job.

Bochy is No. 2 among active managers in victories behind the Houston Astros skipper Dusty Baker, who is No. 9 in all-time wins.

The Top eight managers in wins all-time are Connie Mack (3,731), Tony LaRussa (2,846), John McGraw (2,763), Bobby Cox (2,504), Joe Torre (2,326), Sparky Anderson (2,194), Bucky Harris (2,158) and Joe McCarthy (2,125).
