Texas Rangers Calling Up Top Prospect, Adolis Garcia to Injured List
The Texas Rangers will call up their No. 1 prospect, outfielder Evan Carter, and put outfielder Adolis García on the injured list, per multiple reports.
The Rangers have not made a formal announcement of the move. The club is Thursday and opens a three-game series with the Oakland Athletics on Friday.
García injured his patellar tendon after jumping to try and rob a home run in the 12-3 loss to Houston Astros on Wednesday. He crumpled to the ground and while he eventually stood up under his own power, he was in considerable pain. He needed help to get to the dugout.
Garcia leads the Rangers with 34 homers and 100 RBI.
Carter was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock less than two weeks ago and is MLB.com’s No. 8 overall prospect. He made his debut on his 21st birthday. In that debut, he went 4-for-6 with one run and one RBI.
The former second-round pick in 2020 has slashed .288/.413/.450/.863 with Double-A Frisco and Round Rock this season, with 17 doubles, six triples, 13 home runs and 67 RBI.
With Double-A Frisco, Carter slashed .284/.411/.451/.862 with 15 doubles, six triples, 12 home runs and 62 RBI. He walked 74 times and struck out 103 times. He played three games at the Arizona Complex League during an injury rehab assignment in June.
Last season he spent most of his 2022 with the High-A Hickory Crawdads, where he batted .295 and was named the Rangers’ Minor League Player of the Year by Baseball America. He was promoted to Frisco late that season and took part in the RoughRiders’ run to the Texas League title.
