Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager, lights out since he returned from the injured list in late May, was named the American League Player of the Week for May 29-June 4.

The AL West-leading Rangers (38-20) open a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night (7:50 p.m.) at Globe Life Field.

In six games last week, Seager slashed .407/.429/.741/1.169 (11-for-27) with two home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI as the Rangers went 5-1. He was tied for first in the AL in hits, second in RBI and second in total bases (20).

This is the third time Seager has been a league Player of the Week in his career, with two instances with the Rangers. He's also the second Rangers player to win the honor this season. Adolis García did so in April.

Seager missed 31 games with a hamstring injury, but that didn't slowed down his bat.

Seager is batting .343/.361/.672/.1.033 (23-for 67) with five home runs, seven doubles and 25 RBI in 16 games since his return. His RBI total leads MLB in that span.

Entering Monday's action, he ranks among AL leaders in batting average (1st, .349), OPS (2nd, 1.028), OBP (2nd, .415) and slugging (2nd, .623), with a minimum of 100 at-bats.
