Corey Seager, Texas Rangers Slam Orioles
Corey Seager’s grand slam highlighted another offensive barrage, as the Texas Rangers blasted the Baltimore Orioles 12-2 Friday night at Camden Yards.
The American League West-leading Rangers tied the best 50-game start in franchise history at 32-18 with the 2013 club. Texas also ran its winning streak to three in taking the opener of the three-game series and is 3-1 to start the nine-game road trip.
The bats just continue to amaze. The Rangers lead the Majors in runs per game, double-digit scoring games (13), innings of at least five runs (15) and overtook the Tampa Bay Rays for the best run differential (+122). Texas also has home runs in nine consecutive road games, piling up three against the Orioles.
Leody Taveras drilled a two-run shot in the second off Baltimore starter Grayson Rodriguez for a 2-1 lead. The Rangers wouldn’t trail from there.
An eight-run fourth put the game away. Robbie Grossman had a two-run blast, while Josh Smith and Josh Jung both had RBI singles. But it was Seager’s 437-foot bomb to center with the bases loaded that put an exclamation point on the contest.
It was the third career grand slam and fourth home run of the season for Seager. Three homers have come since his return from the injured list on May 17.
Marcus Semien extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the eighth.
Texas starter Jon Gray enjoyed the support in improving to 5-1 after working seven innings, striking out eight and allowing one run on four hits.
The Rangers are in position to win the series Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 3:05 p.m. CT. LHP Andrew Heaney (3-3, 4.13) starts for Texas, with Dean Kremer (5-1, 4.61) going for the Orioles.
