Corey Seager Finally Back for Texas Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is returning to the lineup Wednesday night against the Atlanta Braves at Globe Life Field.
The Rangers, as expected, activated Seager from the injured list before the third game against the Braves. The club hoped to have Seager back for the entire series, but a stomach bug the past several days kept him sidelined.
The American League West-leading Rangers (26-16) go for the series win at 7:05 p.m. Nathan Eovaldi (5-2, 2.70) starts for Texas, with Spencer Strider (4-1, 2.51) going for Atlanta.
Officially, Seager has been out since April 12 with a left hamstring strain. He made three rehab starts at Double-A Frisco before rejoining the big league club. He moves back into the lineup at designated hitter, batting second.
The Rangers have weathered the storm without one of their stars, but getting Seager back is definitely a boost for the MLB’s second-highest scoring team. Texas came into Wednesday averaging 6.21 runs per game.
Seager’s return also means Ezequiel Duran, who’s performed well at short, will likely be getting starts around the diamond to keep his bat in the lineup. Duran is back at short Wednesday with Seager at DH.
“He still will be getting a lot of playing time,” manager Bruce Bochy said of Duran.
