Texas Rangers outfield prospect Evan Carter is considered among the best prospects in baseball, according to a CBS Sports re-rank of the Top 25 future Major Leaguers after two months of the season.

The re-rank also came about a month before the MLB Draft, which will be held July 9-11 in Seattle as part of All-Star Weekend.

The refreshed list is a product input gathered from scouts, analysts and other talent evaluators around the industry, along with research from CBS Sports.

Carter was the only Texas prospect to make the list, coming in at No. 9. Per CBS Sports:

Carter is a good reminder that overreacting on draft night is a fool's errand. The Rangers shocked the industry by selecting him in the second round in 2020. It's clear now that they were wise to do so. He hadn't been on everyone's map, but those familiar with him reported that he was a promising player whose upward trajectory was halted by the pandemic.

Carter is currently on the Rangers’ developmental list, as the organization is giving him a bit of rest after a great start to 2023 and in anticipation of Double-A Frisco’s two-week road trip.

There may also be big things to come for the 20-year-old outfielder.

Carter has since proved as much on the field, showing off a well-rounded game that allows him to hit for average and control the strike zone while playing a good center field and contributing plenty of stolen bases. Given his performance and the Rangers' success to date, he just might debut later this year.

In his third minor-league season Carter is slashing .276/.404/.387/.791 with four home runs and 25 RBI in 41 games. Carter did deal with a minor hand injury earlier this season, but only missed a few games as a result.
