Strikeout Sensation Grant Anderson Wins MLB, Texas Rangers Debut Over Tigers

The Texas Rangers claimed the series over the Detroit Tigers, while rookie reliever Grant Anderson dazzled in his MLB debut.

When it comes to MLB debut, few will ever top Grant Anderson on Tuesday night.

The rookie reliever, just called up from Triple-A the day before, was a strikeout machine in the Texas Rangers’ 10-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

The American League West-leading Rangers (35-19) clinched a third consecutive series win on the current road trip – fourth straight overall – and moved to 16 games over .500 for the first time since 2016. Texas also set a club record with by winning its last six road series.

The history didn’t end there.

Anderson has starred in the minors, most recently with the Round Rock Express, and the Rangers were hoping to get some of that production in their beleaguered bullpen. The right-hander was simply dominant, striking out the first four batters faced in relief of starter Martín Pérez and seven overall in just 2 2/3 innings.

Anderson (1-0) picked up the win … and well-deserved water-cooler drenching.

Pérez simply didn’t have it, giving up six runs 4 2/3 innings. Luckily, the Texas offense was once again up to the task.

Josh Jung, who extended his career-high hitting streak to 13, homered, had three hits and drove in two. Jonah Heim had two hits and four RBI. Marcus Semien stretched his career-best hitting streak to 19. Nathaniel Lowe had two hits and Travis Jankowski had two RBI.

The Rangers are 6-2 on the road trip and go for a Detroit sweep Wednesday in 12:10 p.m. start. Dane Dunning (4-0, 1.67) is back from paternity leave and starts for Texas.
