Texas Rangers Prospect Jack Leiter Shines Again

Texas Rangers prospect Jack Leiter wrapped up his scintillating month of May with a third quality start for the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders on Wednesday night.

The RoughRiders were hosting the San Antonio Missions at Riders Park and Frisco 3-0.

Leiter threw six innings, giving up just one run and two hits. He walked one and struck out four to lower his season ERA to 3.83.

The game was his fifth start of the month, as he went 2-1 with a 1.67 ERA. He won games against Midland on May 5 and Amarillo on May 17. In both of those games he went six innings, giving him quality starts.

During the month he lowered his overall season ERA by nearly three points.

He also set a season-high in strikeouts with 10 against Amarillo. He has now struck out at least five batters in eight of his 10 outings this season and has 62 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched. He’s walked just 28 batters.

Leiter is the Rangers’ No. 4 overall prospect, per MLB.com.

Leiter made five starts in the month of April and was up-and-down. He went 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA, striking out 29 and walking 15. He gave up 22 hits and 15 earned runs.

Leiter was the Rangers’ first-round pick in 2021 (No. 2 overall) and went 3-10 with a 5.54 ERA in 23 games (22 starts) at Frisco in his first professional season. He struck out 109 and walked 56, while opponents batted .246. He played in the MLB Futures Game at Dodger Stadium last July.
