Texas Rangers starter Jon Gray threw a bullpen session on Wednesday and told Bally Sports Southwest that he was on course to make his next start.

Meanwhile, the Rangers sent Cole Ragans to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday to stretch him out to be a starter, meaning the Rangers see him as a potential replacement or augmentation to the rotation. The Rangers are in the midst of a stretch in which they will play 30 games in 31 days leading into the All-Star Break.

Gray was supposed to start Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Angels but the Rangers decided to skip his start because of a lingering blister issue he’s dealt with in his past two starts. The Rangers started Cody Bradford in his place.

The blisters weren’t hurting his performance. Gray is 6-2 with a 2.32 ERA.

It’s not clear when Gray will pitch next. The Rangers haven't released their probable pitchers for the Toronto Blue Jays series, which starts Friday.

Ragans has worked out of the bullpen this season. He’s 2-3 with a 5.92 ERA in 17 appearances.

The former first-round pick made his MLB debut last season as a starter and spent the final two months of 2022 in the rotation.

He was 0-3 with a 4.95 ERA in nine starts in '22. He allowed 43 hits and 24 runs (22 earned), six home runs and 16 walks in 40 innings. He struck out 27. Opponents hit .272 against him and he had a 1.48 WHIP.
