Texas Rangers Lose Josh Jung, Travis Jankowski to Injury at Reds

Josh Jung was hit by a pitch and Travis Jankowski suffered a hip injury in Wednesday's Texas Rangers loss at the Cincinnati Reds.

As if a series sweep at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds wasn’t bad enough, the Texas Rangers saw Josh Jung and Travis Jankowski leave Wednesday’s 5-3 loss due to injuries.

The good news is that neither seems severe as the Rangers (14-10) start a four-game homestand with the New York Yankees on Thursday.

Jung left in the second inning after taking a a pitch off his left hand during his first at-bat. Jung stayed in the game to field in the bottom half of the inning and was then removed.

Ezequiel Duran replaced him at third base.

The Rangers released a statement that Jung had a left hand contusion and X-rays were negative.

Jung has been productive for the Rangers in his first full season with the team. The former first-round pick was batting .281 with five home runs and 16 RBI entering the game, with a .326 on-base percentage and a .494 slugging percentage. On Monday he had the second multi-home run game of his career. He is second among MLB rookie in home runs.

Later, Jankowski left the game with what the Rangers called left hip tightness after he dove for a ball in left-center field, which ended up falling for a hit. Leody Taveras replaced him in the lineup.

Jankowski has been a vital piece of the lineup, pitching in due to injuries to Taveras at the start of the season and shortstop Corey Seager earlier this month. Jankowski allowed the Rangers to move Josh Smith from left field to shortstop.

Jankowski was coming off a 3-for-5 game on Tuesday that pushed his batting average to .356. He has played all three outfield positions this season.
