Full Game at Catcher for Mitch Garver in Texas Rangers Rehab
Texas Rangers catcher Mitch Garver played a full game behind the plate on Wednesday for Triple-A Round Rock as part of his injury rehab assignment.
The Express were hosting Houston Astros affiliate Sugar Land in the first game of a doubleheader. Round Rock won 7-6.
Garver started at catcher. But the significant part for Garver and the Rangers is that he played the entire game behind the plate, perhaps the final benchmark before a potential call-up later this week.
Garver started at designated hitter on Tuesday night and played the entire game.
He went 1-for-2 with two walks, a strikeout and two runs scored as he nudged his batting average up to .316.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said earlier this week that he was happy with Garver’s progress and indicated that seeing him play a full game would make the team more comfortable calling him up.
Garver was moved to the 10-day injured list on April 10 with a mild left knee sprain. He was batting .263 with two home runs and six RBI at the time of the injury.
