ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi was selected to join the American League All-Star Team’s pitching staff, the league announced on Sunday.

Eovaldi joins five teammates, including Rangers starters that were announced on Thursday — second baseman Marcus Semien, shortstop Corey Seager, third baseman Josh Jung and catcher Jonah Heim. Outfielder Adolis Garcia was also announced as a reserve on Sunday.

The Rangers’ six All-Stars are the second-most to the Atlanta Braves, who are sending eight players. This is the third time the Rangers have at least six All-Stars. They had eight in 2012 and six in 2010. Their five position player selections match 2012 for most in team history.

Eovaldi will make his second All-Star Game appearance. He was part of the AL team in 2021 while with Boston. That season he finished 11-9 with a 3.75 ERA.

He’s nearly caught that win total with one start remaining before the All-Star Break. After throwing seven shutout innings in the Rangers’ 5-2 win over the Houston Astros, he is 10-3 with a 2.64 ERA. He’s struck out 106 and walked 27.

He is among the AL leaders in wins and ERA, and he also leads baseball in complete games (two) and innings pitched (112 1/3).

The only other pitcher in the AL with more wins that Eovaldi is Tampa Bay Rays’ Shane McClanahan. He is also the second Rangers pitcher to win at least 10 games before the All-Star Break since 2013. The other was Lance Lynn, who was 11-4 in 2019.

In his last 14 starts, Eovaldi is 9-1 with a 2.05 ERA with 87 strikeouts and 24 walks, a span that started on April 18.

He is the first Rangers pitcher to win at least nine games and have an ERA of 2.05 or lower over a 14-start span since Kenny Rogers did it from April 6 to June 17, 2005.

The All-Star Game is scheduled for July 11 in Seattle. The Rangers wrap up the first half of the season at the Washington Nationals, so the Rangers selected as All-Stars will have to travel from D.C. to Seattle after that Sunday’s game.
