The news continues to be positive regarding the injury rehab of Texas Rangers ace Nathan Eovaldi.

A bullpen session Wednesday at Globe Life Field included two “up-downs” to simulate about three innings of work, according to MLB.com. The right-hander reportedly felt fine physically and is on schedule to throw another bullpen during the home weekend series with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Eovaldi has ramped up his workload in recent throwing sessions. He threw twice on the recent road trip in Oakland and San Francisco, with the latter bullpen being categorized as harder and consisting of about 40 pitches or two innings of work.

Eovaldi does appear to be making significant progress from a right forearm strain that landed the All-Star on the injured list last month.

A return appears possible later this month. Eovaldi could go on a rehab assignment to build up his pitch count before activation, or the Rangers could activate him and build him up through shorter starts.

Texas employed a similar build-up strategy with Jacob deGrom earlier this season.

General manager Chris Young told 105.3 The Fan that the team will go “as fast as we can but as slow as we need to” with Eovaldi.

Eovaldi has made just one start since the All-Star break, throwing six shutout innings on July 18 in a win over Tampa Bay at Globe Life Field. Eovaldi is 11-3 with a 2.69 ERA for the season.
