Texas Rangers Prospect Cody Bradford Earns PCL Award
Texas Rangers pitching prospect Cody Bradford was named the Pacific Coast League pitcher of the month, the result of an undefeated April.
Bradford pitches for the Triple-A Round Rock Express.
He won all of his starts in April for Texas' top affiliate, going 5-0 with a 0.64 ERA. Bradford gave up just two earned runs in 28 1/3 innings. He struck out 25 and walked eight, while limiting opposing hitters to a .135 batting average. He also had a 0.74 WHIP.
Bradford’s winning streak came to an end on Wednesday against Reno. But, in spite of that, he remains the leader in the PCL in wins (five), ERA (1.07), strikeouts (30), opp. BA (.149), WHIP (0.86), and innings (33 2/3) as of Thursday.
Against Reno, the left-hander threw for 5 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and two runs (both earned). He struck out five and walked four. The walks were a season high.
Bradford, 25, isn’t as highly-touted as some of the Rangers’ other pitching prospects. But he is the club's No. 26 prospect per MLB.com. Bradford was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training.
He’s coming off a 2022 in which he pitched for Double-A Frisco and went 10-7 with a 5.01 ERA in 26 starts. He walked 33 and struck out 124. He helped the RoughRiders to a Texas League title.
The Rangers took Bradford in the sixth round in 2019 out of Baylor. He was 12-11 in three seasons with a 3.86 ERA.
