Texas Rangers Star Corey Seager Out With Hamstring Injury

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager has been placed on the injured list with a hamstring strain suffered Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals.

The Texas Rangers placed shortstop Corey Seager on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, the team announced Wednesday.

Seager is expected to miss at least four weeks, according to multiple reports.

Seager left Tuesday night’s 8-5 comeback win over the Kansas City Royals game in the fifth inning with what was initially labeled as hamstring tightness. He pulled up after running to second base on an opposite-field double. Seager grabbed his hamstring and immediately exited the game.

The Rangers reevaluated Seager on Wednesday. The club also activated outfielder Leody Taveras from the 10-day IL.

The candidates to replace Seager at short include Josh Smith, who is starting Wednesday against the Royals, and Ezequiel Duran. Marcus Semien also played shortstop for the majority of his career before sliding over to second.

“We do have some coverage until we get him back,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday.

Seager had been off to a blazing start. He was hitting.359 with a 1.007 OPS at the time of the injury.

“He’s been swinging the bat so well,” Bochy said. “You hate to see it because he’s been on fire. He’s just been squaring up everything.”

Seager has experienced hamstring injuries before. He missed about a month in 2019 with a left hamstring strain while with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
