Big Hurdle Remains for Texas Rangers Shortstop Corey Seager

Corey Seager has started baseball activities, but Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy needs to shortstop clear a key hurdle before returning to the field.

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy isn’t ready to put a timetable on the recovery of shortstop Corey Seager — at least not a firm one.

Bochy told K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The Fan Dallas/Fort Worth on Tuesday that it would probably be “two to three weeks minimum” for a Seager return now that he’s resumed baseball activities while on the road with the team at the Cincinnati Reds.

But he does know what he needs to see in order to get more specific.

“He's not going to be able to go out there unless he can run and that has not happened yet,” Bochy said.

Seager has been out of the lineup since April 12 due to a strained hamstring suffered while legging out a double. Seager has suffered a hamstring injury once with the Los Angeles Dodgers and needed about a month to recover.

His current baseball activities include taking a few swings and throwing some soft toss.

“He looked really good,” Bochy said. “He’s letting it go.”

Texas was 7-4 with Seager and is now 7-5 since his injury, with Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran getting the starts at short during that span.

The Rangers (14-9) have lost two straight games to the Reds, with the bullpen blowing multiple-run leads in both. Texas wraps up the series Wednesday before returning to Globe Life Field to host the New York Yankees for four games starting Thursday.
