The Texas Rangers snapped a four-game losing streak in a see-saw affair Tuesday night, beating the Boston Red Sox 6-4 at Globe Life Field.

The second game of the series featured four lead changes and Rangers manager Bruce Bochy getting ejected for arguing strikes in the seventh inning.

Texas lost two leads – a point of frustration during the skid – but righted the ship with a two-run seventh to finally forge ahead. An unlike the Monday’s opener, the Texas bullpen held late.

“Great team win, character win, all those things,” Bochy said. “A lot of good things the guys did – pitchers, position players, big hits. … Much-needed win, as we all know.”

The Rangers improved to 83-68, as they try to keep pace in the American League West and Wild Card races. Texas entered the day tied with the Seattle Mariners for second in the division and the third Wild Card spot.

Notables from Tuesday night's Rangers-Red Sox game from Globe Life Field.

Walk This Way

It wasn’t exactly an offensive barrage for the Rangers with seven hits, but the patience displayed at the plate stood in stark contrast to the night before. Bochy lamented his club not being “locked in” during Monday’s 4-2 loss that featured just five hits.

Well, the focus was the plate Tuesday. Texas hitters coaxed eight walks out of Boston pitchers. Robbie Grossman and Leody Taveras each drew two bases on balls. Jonah Heim forced in the final run for Texas on a bases-loaded walk in the seventh.

Adolis García did supply some power in his second game back from the injured list with a home run in the second. The right fielder is up to team-leading 35 homers and 101 RBI.

Bullpen Hangs On

Texas starter Nathan Eovaldi, still building up his pitch count, labored through five innings, allowing three runs. It wasn’t the cleanest outing, but it kept the Rangers in the game.

The bullpen worked the final four innings, allowing just one run on one hit. Both were changed to Andrew Heaney, but otherwise the relievers did their jobs.

Aroldis Chapman put out a fire in the seventh with runners at second and third, and just one out. The lefty went 1 2/3 innings and was credited with the win, improving to 6-4. Jose Leclerc pitched a clean ninth for his third save.

Up Next

The Rangers go for the series win Wednesday, with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch at Globe Life Field. Jon Gray (8-8, 4.05) is on the hill for Texas opposite Brayan Bello (12-9, 3.71).
