Texas Rangers Starter Nathan Eovaldi Throws Another Bullpen

Texas Rangers ace Nathan Eovaldi threw another bullpen session as the right-hander continues to build up after his forearm injury.

Texas Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi threw a 40-pitch bullpen session on Saturday in San Francisco, per The Dallas Morning News.

It’s the next step in Eovaldi’s progress from a right forearm strain that landed him on the injured list last month.

Eovaldi’s session on Saturday was his first since he threw a light bullpen in Oakland on Wednesday. Saturday’s session was expected to be more significant.

Assuming there are no setbacks, Eovaldi could throw another bullpen session on Tuesday when the Rangers are in the middle of a three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels at Globe Life Field.

If that session goes well, Eovaldi could throw live batting practice late next week.

It all indicates that Eovaldi is moving in the right direction. What isn’t clear is whether Eovaldi will go on a rehab assignment once he’s ready or if the Rangers will try and ramp him up with shorter starts in the Majors, something they did with Jacob deGrom to start the season.

The Rangers have not put a timetable on when Eovaldi will return, with general manager Chris Young telling 105.3 The Fan that the team will go “as fast as we can but as slow as we need to.”

Eovaldi’s forearm strain that put him on the injured list on July 30. Before that the Rangers skipped his start during a road series in Houston in an effort to give him more rest.

Eovaldi has made just one start since the All-Star break, throwing six shutout innings on July 18 in a win over Tampa Bay at Globe Life Field. Eovaldi is 11-3 with a 2.69 ERA for the season.
