Texas Rangers Interest in Former MVP Outfielder Andrew McCutchen
The Texas Rangers have reportedly shown interest in acquiring Pittsburgh Pirates veteran outfielder Andrew McCutchen.
The talks are deemed preliminary. The Pirates aren't ready to deal just yet and the Rangers would be more interested if a pitcher was included.
McCutchen is slashing .271/.394/.431/.825 with nine home runs and 24 RBI this season.
He was the 2013 National League MVP. McCutchen is also a five-time All-Star, a four-time Silver Slugger and a Gold Glove winner.
At 36 years old, he's versatile enough to play outfield and work as a designated hitter. He's played mostly right field for the Pirates.
Not to be ruled out is McCutchen's connection go Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. While McCutchen is most associated with the Pirates – the team he broke in with – he did play for Bochy with the San Francisco Giants in 2018.
MLB.com and other outlets reported the talks Monday.
