Watch: Garver Has Texas Rangers' First Multi-Home Run Game of 2023
Mitch Garver became the first Texas Rangers player to hit two home runs in a game this season, as he blasted two on back-to-back at-bats against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday at Globe Life Field.
Garver was making his first start behind the plate since last season after a right flexor tendon injury limited him to designated hitter duties. He went on the injured list in July and had surgery.
Saturday were his first long balls since July 5.
Garver's first home run helped the Rangers pushed the lead to 7-3 in the bottom half of the fifth. Adolis García drew a walk with one out. Josh Jung singled off reliever Yunior Marte and Garver drilled his first homer on a line into the left-field seats.
Garver went deep again in the bottom of the seventh off Phillies reliever Seranthony Dominguez. Jung walked and Robbie Grossman singled. Garver blasted another one into the left-field seats to give the Rangers a 10-3 lead.
Garver wasn't the only Rangers hitter to go yard. Marcus Semien hit his first home run of the season in the first inning.
