Watch: Texas Rangers Prospect Brock Porter Sharp for Down East

Brock Porter was the Texas Rangers' fourth-round pick last July and is playing his first professional season for the Down East Wood Ducks.

Texas Rangers prospect Brock Porter put together his best outing of the season so far in his latest start for Down East on Friday against Fayetteville.

Down East, the Low Class-A affiliate for the Rangers, won the game 7-3.

Porter went four innings for the second-straight start, but for the first time he didn’t give up a hit. That’s saying something, considering Porter had given up a total of five hits in his first three starts.

Along with the no hits, he gave up two walks and struck out seven. He threw 58 pitches, 33 for strikes. He shaved his ERA down to 2.25.

Control was an issue for Porter in his first start on April 6 against Kannapolis as he gave up four walks in 2/3 innings. Since then he’s walked six in his last three starts and now has 19 strikeouts for the season.

Porter has already earned Top 100 prospect status at MLB.com, one of six current Texas farmhands on the list.

The Rangers drafted Porter in the fourth round of the 2022 MLB draft.

Some scouts projected Porter as the top high school pitcher in the draft and the Rangers selected him from St. Mary's Prep (Orchard Lake, MI) even though they didn’t have a second- or third-round pick.

Porter was already committed to Clemson to play baseball. But the Rangers made it a priority to get Porter in the system, paying a fourth-round bonus record of $3.7 million.

He’s a two-time Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year and the 2022 national Gatorade Player of the Year. He went 9-0 with a 0.41 ERA, 115 strikeouts in 58 innings and three no-hitters in 2022.
