Watch: Texas Rangers Prospect Brock Porter Matches Career-High Strikeouts
Texas Rangers prospect Brock Porter has an ERA that you might need a microscope to see after his most recent start for Low Class-A Down East.
Porter threw five innings for the Wood Ducks in their 6-3 win Friday over Columbia.
He had another sensational game, command-wise. He gave up just two hits and a run. He walked one and struck out seven, and at times he was nearly impossible to hit.
Porter didn’t go long enough to get the win, so his season record remains 0-0. But the performance dropped his ERA to 0.89, which is the best on the team.
His five-inning performance was his longest stint of the season so far. His seven strikeouts tied his season-high, which he set on April 21 against Carolina and matched on April 28 against Fayetteville.
He has given up just six earned runs in nine starts. He’s also struck out 42 and walked 17.
Porter has already earned Top 100 prospect status at MLB.com, one of five current Rangers prospects on the list.
Some scouts projected Porter as the top high school pitcher in last year’s draft and the Rangers selected him in the fourth round from St. Mary's Prep (Orchard Lake, MI).
He’s a two-time Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year and the 2022 national Gatorade Player of the Year. He went 9-0 with a 0.41 ERA, 115 strikeouts in 58 innings and three no-hitters.
