Watch: Texas Rangers Rookie Evan Carter Rake in First MLB At-Bat
Texas Rangers No. 1 prospect Evan Carter hit a single in his first Major League at-bat on Friday night against the Oakland Athletics.
Carter was called up to take the place of outfielder Adolis García, who was moved to the injured list for an injury to his patellar tendon.
Carter started the game in right field and almost came to the plate with runners on base in the first inning. But a Josh Smith flyout ended that opportunity.
Carter came to the plate in the second against Athletics starter Paul Blackburn and the game tied at 2-2.
Carter worked Blackburn to a 2-2 count before he drove the next pitch down the right-field line for a single.
Carter went on to steal second base to put himself in scoring position for first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, who drew a walk to put two runners on for Mitch Garver, who was batting clean-up in place of García.
Garver drew a walk and Jonah Heim came up with the bases loaded. Heim flew out to end the inning and stranded Carter at third.
A relative unknown when the Rangers spent a second-round pick on him in the 2020 MLB Draft, the Elizabethton, Tenn., product slashed .288/.413/.450/.863 with Double-A Frisco and Round Rock this season, with 17 doubles, six triples, 13 home runs, and 67 RBI.
Before that, he spent most of his 2021 season in Class-A ball and produced there as well.
Along with being the Rangers’ No. 1 prospect, he’s a Top 10 prospect in all of baseball, he was the Rangers’ 2022 Minor League Player of the Year and won a Minor League Gold Glove for his work in center field last season.
