Cy Young Award Winner Reportedly On Red Sox's Radar To Boost Rotation
The Boston Red Sox must add at least one top-of-the-rotation starting pitcher this offseason.
Boston won 78 games in each of the last two seasons but there is real reason for optimism with the organization. The Red Sox made some positive strides last season, but a struggling starting rotation held the team back.
The Red Sox know this and have been linked to multiple top starters already this offseason. It's unclear who they will land, but 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell is on their radar, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford.
"Of many pitchers Red Sox showing interest in, one still on their radar is Blake Snell," Bradford said.
Landing Snell would be a major addition for the Red Sox. Boston currently has Brayan Bello and Chris Sale in the rotation and needs to make a few additions. Snell was impressive last season for the San Diego Padres and led the National League with a 2.25 ERA across 32 starts.
While Orix Buffaloes phenom Yoshinobu Yamamoto has drawn the most headlines and likely is Boston's top target, Snell would be a perfect addition as well. He is just 31 years old and in the middle of his prime. Plus, he has plenty of American League East experience, as well, after spending the first five years of his career with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Boston needs a true ace and Snell could be exactly that for the team. It wouldn't be too surprising to see speculation pick up shortly.
