Dodgers Reportedly Sign Polarizing Ex-Red Sox Hurler After Resurgent Second Half
The Los Angeles Dodgers are reuniting with a former member of the Boston Red Sox.
Relief pitcher Ryan Brasier has been an interesting player to look out for in free agency. At one point last year, it looked like he could be on the way out of the big leagues, but had a resurgent second half of the season.
Brasier spent five-plus seasons with the Red Sox before being designated for assignment and released last season after logging a 7.29 ERA in 20 appearances. The Dodgers signed Brasier to a minor league deal and he quickly worked his way back up to the big leagues.
Once he got back to the majors, he showed that he clearly had a lot left in the tank. Brasier logged a 0.70 ERA in 39 appearances with Los Angeles with an impressive 38-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 38 2/3 innings pitched.
He has been linked to multiple teams in free agency but reportedly will be reuniting with the Dodgers, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
"Dodgers sign Ryan Brasier," Heyman said.
Brasier signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers last season and clearly has made the most out of it. He reportedly landed a two-year, $9 million deal with the Dodgers with a chance for the deal to go all the way up to $13 million over the two seasons, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
"Free-agent reliever Ryan Brasier in agreement with Dodgers on two-year, $9M contract, source tells The Athletic," Rosenthal said. "Chance to reach $13M total through incentives. First with agreement: Jon Heyman."
Brasier was a polarizing figure in the Boston bullpen but it's nice to see that he has rebounded well. Hopefully, he will be able to continue his resurgence with the Dodgers in 2024.
