Polarizing Ex-Red Sox Pitcher Surprisingly Shining Since Signing With Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers certainly must love what they are seeing out of relief pitcher Ryan Brasier right now.
Brasier spent the last five full seasons with the Boston Red Sox and began the 2023 campaign with the club, but was designated for assignment after compiling a disappointing 7.29 ERA in 20 appearances. The 35-year-old signed with the Dodgers to a minor league contract shortly after and didn't allow a run in two appearances before being called back up to the big leagues.
The longtime Red Sox hurler has taken his new opportunity with the Dodgers in stride and is in the middle of the one strongest stretches of his seven-year big league career. Brasier has pitched to a 1.46 ERA in 11 appearances so far this season for the Dodgers to go along with one save. The 35-year-old's strong command has been one of the biggest reasons for his turnaround and currently has an 11-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Brasier's time with the Red Sox was complicated, to say the least. He was an important piece of the 2018 World Series-winning club and had arguably his best season that year compiling a 1.60 ERA in 34 appearances for Boston. Brasier had a roller coaster of a career with Boston after the 2018 campaign and at times was one of the club's best relievers, but also mightily struggled at times.
Hopefully, he can continue his resurgence with the Dodgers this season. Red Sox fans may get a chance to see their old friend in action as Los Angeles comes to town for a three-game series at Fenway Park from August 25-27.
