Ex-Red Sox Pitcher Officially Announces Retirement After Successful Career
One former member of the Boston Red Sox officially is hanging up his cleats.
After a 13-year successful career, former Red Sox pitcher Corey Kluber officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball on Instagram on Friday.
"With sincere appreciation, I am announcing my retirement from Major League Baseball, concluding a remarkable 13-season Major League Baseball journey," Kluber said. "I am deeply grateful for the support of numerous individuals and entities that profoundly influenced my path.
"A special acknowledgment to the Cleveland Guardians, Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Boston Red Sox for granting me the privilege of wearing their jerseys and being a part of your teams. Each chapter was filled with priceless experiences, phenomenal teammates, and the backing of devoted fans, whose steadfast support always moved me to be the very best I could every time I toed the rubber."
Kluber began his impressive big-league career as a member of the Guardians in 2011. He developed into one of the top pitchers in baseball in Cleveland and over his nine years with the club racked up three All-Star appearances and two Cy Young Awards.
He joined the Rangers ahead of the 2020 campaign, the Yankees ahead of the 2021 season, the Rays before the 2022 campaign, and finished his career with the Red Sox in 2023.
Overall, Kluber finished his career with 116 wins to 77 losses and had a 3.44 ERA and 1,725-to-368 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 271 total appearances.
