Ex-Red Sox Slugger Makes Postseason History After Massive Performance
One former member of the Boston Red Sox certainly is having a good time this postseason.
Former Red Sox slugger Kyle Schwarber joined the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022 and has fit right in since. Schwarber led the National League in home runs with 46 last season and launched 47 this year. Although he sometimes has trouble making contact, he hasn't had any issues hitting bombs.
The Phillies are just two wins away from making a trip to the World Series and Schwarber has been a major reason why. Schwarber launched two home runs in the club's Game 2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks and has three home runs overall in the National League Championship Series. His three long balls give him 18 total playoff home runs in his career, tying New York Yankees legend Reggie Jackson for the most by a left-handed hitter in Major League Baseball history.
Schwarber only appeared in 41 games for the Red Sox in 2021 after being acquired from the Washington Nationals but quickly developed into a fan-favorite in Boston. This wasn't too surprising. He's been a fan-favorite everywhere he has played throughout his career and has cemented himself as one in Philadelphia, as well.
The Phillies are in an interesting spot. If they can win two more games against the Diamondbacks they will make their way back to the World Series where they would take on either the Texas Rangers or Houston Astros. Before this postseason comes to a close, Schwarber very well could take over as the sole leader in postseason home runs by a lefty in MLB history.
