Fiery Red Sox Hurler Reportedly 'Sneaky' Boston Trade Piece As Deadline Approaches
The Boston Red Sox are going to have some serious decisions to make ahead of the August 1 trade deadline.
Boston is in one of the most intriguing positions in the league heading into the trade deadline. The Red Sox currently are 46-43 and are just three games back of the final American League Wild Card spot. Boston has a favorable schedule shortly and could look to add ahead of the deadline. The Red Sox also have a few interesting veterans on the roster who could bring in a solid haul if dealt.
One player who could be a player to watch on the Boston roster who could be on the move is pitcher Nick Pivetta, according to MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo.
"Pivetta is a sneaky interesting trade case if they walk the buy/sell line," Cotillo said. "Possible Red Sox could try to sell high after bullpen dominance. He's a free agent after 2024 and may get a raise from $5.35M in the winter. Obviously value in keeping him, too."
Pivetta has grown into a fan-favorite in Boston for his solid play, but more so for his fiery antics on the mound. He's certainly passionate and has shown that throughout his time so far in Boston. The 30-year-old struggled to open the season and was moved to the bullpen and has thrived ever since. Pivetta has pitched to a 2.79 ERA in 14 appearances out of the bullpen. The righty has struck out 39 batters across 29 innings pitched while holding opposing hitters to a .146 batting average.
If Pivetta were to be moved, he likely could bring in an interesting trade package. Pivetta now has had success both from the rotation and also the bullpen so a team could look to acquire him in any role. At this point, there's no way to know what the Red Sox will do, but keep an eye on the fiery righty.
