Padres Reportedly Linked To Pair Of Red Sox Sluggers Ahead Of Trade Deadline
The Boston Red Sox certainly have some intriguing trade candidates.
Boston is sure to be busy ahead of the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline as the club looks to get back to the postseason. The Red Sox currently are 45-43 and are just three games back of the final American League Wild Card spot and have a favorable schedule to kick off the second half of the season.
The Red Sox realistically could rack up a few wins and gain some ground in the standings and likely will be busy ahead of the trade deadline as it looks to improve. Multiple players on Boston's roster have found their names in trade rumors recently and that likely won't slow down anytime soon. Two players that have been mentioned as potential trade targets of the San Diego Padres reportedly are Adam Duvall and Justin Turner, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
"I wouldn't be as concerned about controllable targets as much as how to add players who could get them into the playoffs this year," Bowden said. "Once you're in, anything can happen. I would target positions players including Cody Bellinger of the (Chicago Cubs), Travis d'Arnaud of the (Atlanta Braves), Adam Duvall and Justin Turner of the Red Sox, and the (Washington Nationals') Jeimer Candelario, Lane Thomas, or Joey Meneses."
San Diego has been a disappointment this season and currently is 41-46 and in fourth place in the National League West. While a move for Duvall or Turner makes sense for the Padres, it may not make as much sense for the Red Sox. Duvall has been in trade rumors a lot recently and could find himself on the move due to the ascension of young outfielder Jarren Duran. Turner, on the other hand, could be moved but definitely is less likely than Duvall. If the Red Sox were to pick up a few more games in the standings, Turner is the perfect veteran piece to help bring the club back to the postseason.
Boston likely will be extremely busy ahead of the trade deadline and Red Sox Nation should be keeping a close eye on the club.
