Former Red Sox Fan-Favorite Refutes Report That He Has Decided To Retire

It sounds like one former member of the Red Sox may not end up retiring after all

One former member of the Boston Red Sox may be hanging up his cleats but it isn't clear at this point. 

Recently, there was a report that former Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. was expected to announce his retirement this offseason. 

And while retirement is still on the table, Bradley took to social media to refute the report and state that nothing has been decided at this time. 

"So let's get this cleaned up a little," Bradley said. "I personally have not officially retired. I may retire, but that has not been decided."

Bradley is just 33 years old so it wouldn't be too surprising to see him continue playing in 2024 and beyond. At his peak, he was one of the best defensive players in all of baseball. The one-time All-Star won a Gold Glove Award as a member of the Red Sox in 2018 while helping lead the club to the World Series. 

The 33-year-old spent the 2023 season with the Kansas City Royals. Bradley signed a minor league contract with Kansas City ahead of the campaign and made the big league club's Opening Day roster. Bradley appeared in just 43 games with the Royals and slashed .133/.188/.210 to go with one home run and six RBIs before being designated for assignment. 

Bradley was selected in the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft by the Red Sox and eventually made his big league debut in 2013. He quickly developed into a fan favorite in Boston and was an important piece for two World Series-winning clubs. Whether he decides to play next year or not, he certainly has had a successful career.
