Former Red Sox Pitcher Reportedly 'Clear Frontrunner' To Replace Chaim Bloom
Things are starting to heat up with the Boston Red Sox.
Boston has a very interesting offseason ahead of it and it sounds like it could have its next leader of the baseball operations department shortly. The Red Sox have been interviewing candidates over the last few weeks and former Boston pitcher and current Chicago Cubs assistant general manager Craig Breslow reportedly is the "clear favorite" to land Boston's top job, according to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.
"The field to become the next head of baseball operations for the Red Sox is narrowing — and a favorite has emerged," Speier said. Multiple industry sources believe that Cubs assistant GM Craig Breslow is the clear frontrunner in the search to lead the Sox baseball operations department. The Sox informed candidates on Monday whether they’re advancing to the second round of the process.
"Breslow, according to sources, remains in discussions with the team. To this point, Breslow is the only candidate known to have a second-round interview. (Minnesota Twins) GM Thad Levine — seen as one of the strongest external candidates — was informed by the Sox on Monday that he’s no longer in consideration for the position."
Breslow spent 12 seasons pitching in the big leagues. He joined the Red Sox during the 2012 campaign and remained with the club through the 2015 season before joining the Miami Marlins ahead of the 2016 campaign. Breslow was a member of the 2013 World Series-winning Red Sox club and certainly makes sense as an option to replace former Boston chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom.
Breslow was promoted to assistant general manager with the Cubs following the departure of former Red Sox executive Theo Epstein and lives in the Boston area with his family.
It sounds like Boston will have a new baseball operations leader very soon.
