Could the Mets actually nab one of Boston's best sluggers this offseason?

The Boston Red Sox likely will see a significant amount of roster turnover this offseason.

Boston was busy last offseason but maintained roster flexibility with multiple one-year contracts to free agents. The Red Sox also offered multiple two-year deals that have options after the first year. One player who will be a free agent once again and could be on the move is slugger Adam Duvall and the New York Mets could be a possible fit, according to SNY's Danny Abriano.

"Duvall doesn't get on base a ton, but he rebounded in 2023 with a season power-wise that reflects the production he was known for from 2019 to 2021," Abriano said. "Like Pham, he could perhaps be had on a one-year deal. And with Nimmo and Jeff McNeill on the roster -- and Drew Gilbert perhaps ready for the majors at some point in 2024 -- the Mets should be trying to keep any outfield signing to one guaranteed year."

Duvall impressed with the Red Sox this season. He was one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball to kick off the 2023 campaign, but an injury sidelined him. Once he returned to the field, he struggled initially, but picked up where he left off. Duvall finished the season with 21 home runs and 58 RBIs in 92 games and slashed .247/.303/.531.

The 35-year-old could be back with Boston, but at this point it may be unlikely. Young speedster Jarren Duran impressed this season and is in line to be the club's starting center fielder in 2024. Duvall would make sense for the Mets and provide them a much-needed right-handed power bat and outfield depth. He likely will have a solid market and the Mets are a team to look out for.
