One of the Texas Rangers' postseason stars still is available.

Free agency has moved at a weird pace and Jordan Montgomery still is available along with a few other stars.

The Boston Red Sox still are looking to upgrade the rotation and Montgomery has popped up as a possible on multiple occasions. Boston still needs some help and Montgomery would be the perfect option.

Montgomery's asking price could fall as the days pass and he's still available. That certainly could help Boston, but it sounds like the club will have some competition if it wants Montgomery.

One team that could enter the Montgomery sweepstakes is the Philadelphia Phillies, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.

"(Rob Thomson) said he is more comfortable with the rotation’s depth behind Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Ranger Suárez, Taijuan Walker, and Cristopher Sánchez, following recent acquisitions," Zolecki said. "That includes (Spencer Turnbull), (David Buchanan), Kolby Allard, and Max Castillo, plus returnees Nick Nelson and others.

"The Phillies hope prospects Mick Abel and Griff McGarry take steps forward this season. Sources have said the Phillies have interest in free-agent left-hander Jordan Montgomery, but only on a 1-2 year deal."

Landing Montgomery would go a long way for the Red Sox. He immediately would be the club's No. 1 starter. Boston's rotation still has a lot of question marks but Montgomery would completely change the club's outlook.

Young hurler Brayan Bello could take a step forward and it wouldn't be surprising to see Lucas Giolito bounce back as well. Nick Pivetta and Kutter Crawford both are wild cards as well.

If Boston actually wants to sign Montgomery, it will need to act quickly.
