Red Sox Eyeing Former All-Star In Free Agency According To MLB Insider
It sounds like the Boston Red Sox are considering an intriguing bounce-back candidate in free agency.
Boston needs to improve the starting rotation and is looking to add at least one or two arms this winter. The Red Sox have been linked to multiple top-tier arms this offseason but also will need to add at least one middle-of-the-rotation hurler as well.
One player the Red Sox reportedly are expressing interest in is former Washington Nationals, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, and Cleveland Guardians starter Lucas Giolito, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
"Free agent (right-handed pitcher) Lucas Giolito, 29, is drawing interest from the (Los Angeles Dodgers), (New York Mets), Red Sox, (Arizona Diamondbacks), and (Kansas City Royals)," Morosi said. "The (Yoshinobu Yamamoto) and (Shohei Ohtani) markets could impact Giolito's destination."
Giolito is an interesting player to look out for this offseason. At one point he was considered one of the top starters in the American League but likely will be looking for a prove-it deal in free agency after two straight down years.
The 29-year-old logged a 4.88 ERA across 33 starts in 2023 for the White Sox, Angels, and Guardians. He actually looked like his former self for much of the season while posting a 3.79 ERA across 21 starts for the White Sox. But, after he was traded to the Angels, things began to fall apart for him.
If the Red Sox could land a top arm like Yamamoto, Blake Snell, or Jordan Montgomery along with Giolito, Boston could be on to something.
