It sounds like one familiar face may end up signing elsewhere this offseason.

The free-agent market has been extremely slow this offseason. There still are plenty of intriguing players available, including multiple players who took the field with the Boston Red Sox in 2023.

One player who is sure to have a big market is fan-favorite slugger Justin Turner. The two-time All-Star signed with the Red Sox as a free agent ahead of the 2023 season but is a free agent again after opting out of his contract.

There have been some rumblings that a reunion could happen, but it has been unlikely. This continues to be the case and at this point, Turner is "all but certain" to leave in free agency, according to MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo.

"None of Boston’s top three free agents have signed yet," Cotillo said. "That could change quickly. (Adam Duvall’s) market has been quiet and it feels like he may be had for cheap late in the winter. He was a great fit for Fenway and could return as a (designated hitter) option... especially if he can play first base to give Triston Casas some rest against lefties.

"The Red Sox have talked to (James Paxton) about a return but it looks like the (Seattle Mariners) are in play for him again. It’s all but certain (Justin Turner) goes elsewhere. His market is similar to that of old friend J.D. Martinez."

Turner impressed with the Red Sox last season and was one of the club's most steady offensive players. Although this is the case, he is 39 years old and likely doesn't fit the Red Sox's timeline to compete.

He was great with Boston last year and quickly became an important voice in the clubhouse, but it sounds like he will be playing elsewhere in 2024.
