Red Sox Fan-Favorite Slugger Takes Hard Stance On His Future With Club
The Boston Red Sox could look very different in 2024.
Boston likely will be one of the most active teams in baseball this upcoming offseason as the club looks to get back to the playoffs next year. The Red Sox are close. They're just a few moves away and this offseason will be critical. Boston's biggest question mark is in the starting rotation but the club also does have the designated hitter position to address.
The Red Sox have been extremely fortunate in 2023 after signing veteran slugger Justin Turner. The 38-year-old has been exceptional this season but it is unclear if he will be back with the club in 2024. Turner has the opportunity to re-enter free agency and could get more than the Red Sox want to offer. Although that is the case, it sounds like Turner is interested in returning to Boston, according to MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo.
“I’m not even there yet. That’s for after the season and we’ll figure it out when that comes,” Turner said as transcribed by Cotillo. “I love playing in Boston and I’ve had a great experience here so obviously, it would be fantastic if I was still here.”
Turner has a player option for the 2024 season worth just over $13 million and likely could get more in free agency. He has been one of the Red Sox's best players this season, but at 38 years old it's unclear if the Red Sox would want to bring him back in or fill the role with someone younger. Turner has slashed .278/.348/.463 with 23 home runs and a career-high 95 RBIs so far this season for Boston.
