Red Sox Reportedly Considering Trade Involving Star Pitcher Despite Strong Season
The Boston Red Sox shocked the baseball world Saturday.
Boston entered the offseason looking to add to the starting rotation and made a major subtraction instead by trading seven-time All-Star Chris Sale to the Atlanta Braves in a deal for infielder Vaughn Grissom.
The Red Sox certainly aren't done making moves. Boston recently signed one-time All-Star Lucas Gilito and now has an even larger hole in the rotation that needs to be filled. It sounds like the Red Sox are looking everywhere to improve the club and more trades could be on the horizon.
One player who surprisingly has found his name in trade rumors lately and could end up being dealt is star closer Kenley Jansen, according to Beyond the Monster's Chris Henrique.
"The Red Sox continue to explore trades regarding players within their bullpen, including closer Kenley Jansen, per source," Henrique said.
Jansen joined the Red Sox in free agency and did an impressive job in stabilizing the back of the rotation for Boston. He logged a 3.63 ERA and racked up 29 saves in 51 total appearances while earning his fourth career All-Star nod.
If the Red Sox were to trade Jansen for starting rotation help, some intriguing options are available in free agency like Josh Hader or Aroldis Chapman. The Red Sox could opt for an internal option like Tanner Houck.
It's still early and unclear if the Red Sox actually will trade Jansen. But, now that they've traded Sale it seems like anything could happen.
