Red Sox Reportedly Could Look To Trio Of All-Stars To Help Fix Ailing Starting Rotation

Boston may look into three different All-Star hurlers to help fix the rotation

The Boston Red Sox have some serious work to do. 

Boston missed out on its top-choice free agent to help fix the starting rotation as former Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto reportedly inked a 12-year deal worth $325 million with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Red Sox now need to pivot in another direction to fix the club's biggest roster hole. Luckily for the Red Sox, there still are some intriguing hurlers available. Boston -- like many teams -- though, likely needs to add at least two impact starters if it wants to compete for a playoff spot in 2024. 

There are multiple aces available that still could help Boston in free agency including Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery. If the Red Sox could land one of them, they could look to land a less expensive option with upside to bolster the rotation.

Three hurlers the Red Sox could look to land are Marcus Stroman, Lucas Giolito, and Michael Lorenzen, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. 

"Boston is still in need of rotation help, and while Montgomery and (Shōta Imanaga) are on their radar, the Red Sox could also look to others including Stroman, Giolito, and Michael Lorenzen," Feinsand said.

If the Red Sox could land Montgomery, Snell, or Imanaga as the club's No. 1 starter, any of the other three could make sense. Stroman was an All-Star last season with the Chicago Cubs and logged a 3.95 ERA in 27 total outings. Giolito had a down year, but at one point was one of the top arms in the American League and still is just 29 years old.

Lorenzen began the 2023 season with the Detroit Tigers and earned his first career All-Star nod before being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. He finished the season with a 4.18 ERA in 29 overall appearances but had a 3.58 ERA with Detroit before being traded.

Boston has some serious work to do and needs to act quickly.
