Red Sox Reportedly Have 'Engaged In Trade Talks' With Yankees For All-Star
The Boston Red Sox have some work to do this offseason.
The starting rotation is the club's priority this offseason, but there are other spots that the club needs to address. One of the other spots the Red Sox need to address this offseason is second base.
Boston's middle infield should get a boost in 2024 with Trevor Story fully healthy at shortstop, but the club still should look into improving second base. Multiple players have been floated as possible fits but one name who has stood out is New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres. While he certainly would help Boston, it's unclear if the two rivals actually would come together on a deal of that magnitude. Although this is the case, Boston reportedly has at least spoken to the Yankees about a possible move, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
"There is no doubt that second base is a priority for the Red Sox as they have already engaged in trade talks with the (Cincinnati Reds) about Jonathan India and with the Yankees regarding Gleyber Torres," Bowden said. Yes, (Ha-Seong Kim) would be a perfect fit for Boston, especially coming off a career-best season. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, San Diego is not looking to move him since he will only make $8 million next year."
Bowden was asked about the possibility of the Red Sox improving the second base position. San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim was floated as a trade candidate but while Bowden was answering the question, mentioned the intriguing point of Boston speaking with the Yankees.
New York has shown interest in Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo and it led many to speculate a possible Verdugo-for-Torres swap. ESPN's Jeff Passan threw cold water on the idea, but it sounds like the Red Sox have at least discussed a possible move.
