Red Sox Reportedly In 'Advanced Talks' To Sign Rising Star To Contract Extension
The Boston Red Sox need some good news and it sounds like they may get some very soon.
The starting rotation has been the club's biggest issue but one bright spot has been the development of young hurler Brayan Bello. He has shown true star potential and is just 24 years old.
While the Red Sox have been linked to multiple frontline starters -- like Jordan Montgomery -- they also may have a budding ace on their hands.
It sounds like they know this and reportedly are in "advanced talks" to sign Bello to a contract extension, according to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.
"According to multiple industry sources, Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello is in advanced talks about an agreement on a long-term deal with the Red Sox," Speier said. "The deal would keep Bello with the team beyond 2028 when he would first be eligible for free agency.
"The 24-year-old is coming off a season in which he went 12-11 with a 4.24 ERA (107 ERA+) and 20-percent strikeout rate in 28 starts spanning 157 innings. It was the most innings by a homegrown Red Sox starter since Clay Buchholz in 2014. Terms of the extension are not yet known, but a deal would keep Bello — who signed out of the Dominican in 2017 for $28,000, made his big league debut in 2022, and is now a candidate to start on Opening Day — with the Red Sox for years to come."
Bello has impressed with Boston since making his big league debut in 2022 and it sounds like he isn't going anywhere for a long time.
