Red Sox Reportedly Met With Marquee Free Agent Recently According To Insider
Things are starting to heat up involving the Boston Red Sox.
Spring Training officially is here but the Red Sox still are looking for ways to improve the club. The obvious hole in the roster is in the starting rotation and the Red Sox still are looking for ways to improve.
One of the top options still available in free agency certainly is former New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, and Texas Rangers hurler Jordan Montgomery.
The big lefty has developed into an extremely steady hurler and was a star for Texas throughout the club's World Series run in 2023.
It's unclear where Montgomery will land, but he has been mentioned along with the Red Sox on numerous occasions. Some have speculated that the Red Sox wouldn't spend what it cost to land him, but the two sides reportedly met recently and a signing is a possibility, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.
"The Red Sox had a Zoom meeting with Jordan Montgomery recently," Olney said. "He’d represent an upgrade for their (2024 rotation), and if signed to a long-term deal, could be part of the staff rotation. They certainly have the payroll flexibility to make it happen."
Montgomery would be the perfect addition to the Boston rotation. The Red Sox's rotation currently is the club's weakest area, but if they could add Montgomery, they would be sneaky good.
A rotation consisting of Montgomery, Lucas Giolito, Brayan Bello, Nick Pivetta, and either Kutter Crawford or Tanner Houck could surprise some people. Montgomery likely will sign soon, hopefully, it is with the Red Sox.
