Red Sox Are Waiting For Postseason Star's Price Tag To Drop; Could Move Be Coming?
The Boston Red Sox may not be done adding to the roster after all.
Spring Training finally is here and soon enough the 2024 regular season will kick off. While this is the case, there's a surprising amount of top free agents still out there. Cody Bellinger arguably was the top free agent available and finally came to terms on a deal with the Chicago Cubs.
The best free agents still available are Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, and Matt Chapman among others. They all will find new homes soon and the Red Sox still are an option for Montgomery if his price drops, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.
"Montgomery has also drawn interest from the (Los Angeles Angels), who appear primed to ultimately land either him or (Blake Snell) when all is said and done," Feinsand said. "The Red Sox also remain on the periphery of the Montgomery situation, though it seems Boston is waiting for his price tag to come down. Perhaps a shorter-term deal with opt-outs is something that would work for the Red Sox."
The big lefty is going to be linked to the Red Sox until he signs elsewhere. He almost makes too much sense for Boston and he's the exact type of player it needs. It still seems like the club may be unwilling to hand out a large deal, though.
Bellinger was looking for a deal worth over $200 million at one point and got significantly less from the Cubs. If the same happens to Montgomery, maybe he will end up in Boston.
