The Boston Red Sox have been heavily connected to free agent left-handed relief pitchers, but it sounds like they may not be in the market for a former New York Yankees star.

Former Yankees hurler Zack Britton hosted a throwing session Wednesday afternoon for interested teams and the Red Sox reportedly was not one of the six teams in attendance, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

The two-time All-Star reportedly threw a bullpen in front of representatives from the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, and Texas Rangers.

Boston enters spring training with just two left-handed pitchers currently projected to be in the team's bullpen. The Red Sox currently have Joely Rodriguez and Richard Bleier as the lone lefties in the bullpen so many have wondered if they would make an addition.

Seemingly every big-name left-handed pitcher who has remained on the market has been tied to the Red Sox at one point or another including Britton, but it sounds like the Boston won't be making a run at him. Another player who was tied to the Red Sox but signed elsewhere was Arizona Diamondbacks left Andrew Chafin.

There still are a few left-handed relievers left on the market if the Red Sox have any interest in making a move. Two-time World Series champion Will Smith, three-time Al-Star Brad Hand, and one-time All-Star and former Tampa Bay Rays hurler Matt Moore all are still available and all could make sense for Boston at the right price.

Britton could've also made sense for the Red Sox but may be a risky option after appearing in just 25 games over the last two seasons as he dealt with injuries. It appears as though we will find out Britton's next move in the near future and maybe that will trigger other movement in the left-handed relief pitcher market.
