Red Sox Rookie Dynamic Duo Make History In Losing Effort Against Pirates
The Boston Red Sox have a bright future.
Boston may have finished in last place in the American League East in 2022, but the 2023 season should be kinder to the club after multiple intriguing offseason additions. And to make matters even better for the club, there are plenty of exciting prospects on the horizon for the Red Sox.
Two rookies already are making their presence felt for the Red Sox early on in 2023 in outfielder Masataka Yoshida and first baseman Triston Casas. Boston signed Yoshida this offseason after he spent the first seven years of his professional career with the Orix Buffaloes. Casas was drafted in the first round of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft and worked his way up Boston's farm system and made his big league debut towards the end of the 2022 season, but still is considered a rookie this season.
Both Yoshida and Casas started off Monday's contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a bang as both crushed their first home runs of the season in the first inning of the loss. The dynamic rookie duo became the first pair of Boston rookies to club home runs in the first inning of a game since at least 1961, according to ESPN Stats and Info.
Yoshida and Casas likely will be taking the field together as teammates in Boston for the foreseeable future so Monday night hopefully won't be the last time we see the duo launch homers in the same inning.
The duo will have a chance to launch more home runs Tuesday night as the Red Sox continue their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET from Fenway Park and the Red Sox will look to get back in the win column after dropping series-opener Monday night, 7-6.
