The Boston Red Sox could look different shortly.

The 2023 MLB Trade Deadline is scheduled for August 1 and with Boston sitting in last place in the American League East at 40-39, there's no way to know for sure what the team's strategy will be. Boston is just three games back of an American League Wild Card spot so the team could opt for an addition or two to help push the club back to the postseason.

It also wouldn't be too surprising to see the club take a similar approach as it did in 2022 and not become buyers or sellers, but instead take a path more down the middle where the teams some of its veterans but also makes a small move or two, as well. One player who reportedly could find himself playing for another club around the trade deadline is slugger Adam Duvall, according to the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham.

"To use the Red Sox as an example, they could trade Adam Duvall knowing Jarren Duran can step into center field," Abraham said. "The Brewers, Guardians, Marlins, Mariners, and Twins all need offensive help. Duvall has played almost every day since coming off the injured list.

"Several executives from other teams believe the Red Sox are hoping he will get hot and become tradeable. Otherwise, what would be the point of decreasing Duran’s playing time at a time he was emerging as a valuable player?"

Duvall could be an interesting trade candidate, for sure. The one-time All-Star was one of the very best hitters in all of baseball over the first two weeks of the 2023 season but a fractured wrist forced him to miss some time. Duvall's absence allowed Duran to find a larger role and finally take advantage of it. The speedy outfielder became one of Boston's most dependable hitters in Duvall's absence and has shown with an extended opportunity, he can impress.

If the Red Sox were to deal Duvall, it would open up center field for Duran to play every day once again. Also, a deal for Duvall likely could bring Boston another pitcher or two from a contender looking to win now.

There's no way to know if the Red Sox will make a move like this, but Red Sox Nation certainly should keep a close eye on Duvall ahead of the trade deadline.
