Red Sox Slugger Reportedly Could Join Mets This Offseason If He Leaves Boston

Should the Red Sox look into bringing the slugger back into the fold this offseason?

The Boston Red Sox are going to see some turnover this offseason.

This isn't too surprising as the club has primarily focused on one- and two-year deals in free agency over the last few seasons. Boston has dealt with a wide range of turnover and that trend is going to continue this offseason. We may see this change shortly as some of Boston's top young prospects make their way to the big leagues but the club surely will lose some talent in free agency this offseason.

One player who could find himself playing elsewhere is slugger Adam Duvall. The one-time All-Star signed a one-year deal with Boston last offseason and impressed while slugging 21 home runs in 92 games. Boston has somewhat of a logjam in the outfield with Masataka Yoshida, Alex Verdugo, Jarren Duran, and Wilyer Abreu all under contract and vying for time along with Rob Refsnyder in the mix.

It's certainly possible Duvall could be back -- especially if the Red Sox trade away someone like Verdugo or Duran -- but if he does leave one team that reportedly makes sense as a fit is the New York Mets, according to SNY's Danny Abriano.

"Beyond (Cody Bellinger), there are several solid fits in free agency who could perhaps be had on one-or two-year deals," Abriano said. "Old friend Tommy Pham could be a fit, as could Adam Duvall, who rebounded in 2023 with a season power-wise that reflected the production he was known for from 2019 to 2021. There's also Joc Pederson, who was a borderline difference-making bat in 2018 and 2019, and an All-Star in 2022 when he resurrected his career with the (San Francisco Giants)."

Duvall has been linked to the Mets on multiple occasions because New York needs to add at least one outfielder this offseason and could use a power boost as well. The 35-year-old would be a solid fit who when healthy provides some pop in the middle of the lineup as well as solid defense at any of the three outfield spots. Duvall impressed throughout the 2023 campaign but his time in Boston may be done.
