Rising Red Sox Star Reportedly Will Miss Rest Of Season Due To Unfortunate Injury
The Boston Red Sox certainly got some bad news Tuesday afternoon.
Boston reportedly will be without the services of rising young outfielder Jarren Duran for the rest of the season as he's set to undergo surgery to repair a turf toe injury, according to MassLive.com's Christopher Smith.
"Red Sox’s Jarren Duran will have surgery tomorrow," Smith said. "He has a turf toe injury. He’s out for the rest of the season."
Duran has been a revelation for the Red Sox this season. The young speedster initially began the 2023 season with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox but quickly was called up after fellow outfielder Adam Duvall went down with an injury. Duran took a massive step forward this season and logged career highs across the board. The 26-year-old appeared in 102 games and slashed .295/.346/.482 to go along with eight home runs, 40 RBIs, and a team-leading 34 doubles and 24 stolen bases.
Boston has solid depth in the outfield with Masataka Yoshida, Alex Verdugo, and Adam Duvall all healthy, but the club certainly will miss Duran. The 26-year-old likely has earned himself a massive role with the Red Sox in 2024 after such an impressive campaign.
In the meantime, it wouldn't be too surprising to see either Wilyer Abreu or Ceddanne Rafaela remain with the big league club for the rest of the season in Duran's place. While it's exciting that a prospect likely will get an extended look, losing Duran hurts Boston's slim chances of nabbing a postseason spot.
Hopefully, he will be able to recover quickly and carry over his momentum from this season to the 2024 campaign.
