The Boston Red Sox still are looking for pitching as Spring Training quickly approaches.

Boston added Lucas Giolito to the mix earlier this offseason but still could use another hurler. Landing someone like Jordan Montgomery would be the perfect option, but it's unclear if he is a possibility at this point.

The Red Sox are more likely to sign a depth option with upside to a cheap contract. One player who could make a lot of sense is former New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Cleveland Guardians fireballer Noah Syndergaard.

He recently held a live bullpen for interested clubs and still is looking for his next opportunity. It's unclear exactly who has expressed interest in him, but there has been at least a handful of clubs, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

"I do think that for (Michael Lorenzen) and Syndergaard there are plenty of scenarios where out there which they will sign before (Blake Snell) and (Jordan Montgomery)," Morosi said. "The reason is that their market is a little more clearly defined. They probably are looked upon as depth starting pitchers right now.

"But they are working out and teams have seen them throw actually in person so scouts have been able to put eyes on both pitchers. There's a general confidence that both are in a good place and are physically and mentally ready to go. There are a number of teams looking for help."

He would make a lot of sense for the Red Sox if they can't land someone like Montgomery. At one point, Syndergaard was an All-Star but injuries have derailed his career.

If he's fully healthy, why not take a chance on him? He's just 31 years old and could be a bounce-back candidate.
