These Three Teams Reportedly Have Shown Interest In Former Red Sox Fan-Favorite
One former member of the Boston Red Sox seems to have a very solid market brewing in free agency.
Former Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the 2023 season after a successful five-year stint in Boston. Martinez thrived in Los Angeles but is a free agent again and will not be returning to the Dodgers after they signed two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.
Martinez is 36 years old but is sure to land a solid deal in free agency. Three teams that reportedly have shown interest in landing him are the New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels, and the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
"The Mets and Angels are eying top free-agent (designated hitter) J.D. Martinez," Heyman said. "His old Diamondbacks team also seeks a hitter."
This isn't the first time Martinez has been linked to any of the trio and it wouldn't be surprising to see him land with any of them. New York needs a new designated hitter after letting slugger Daniel Vogelbach go this offseason. Los Angeles lost its designated hitter this offseason as Ohtani signed with the Dodgers.
Arizona took a massive step forward and made it all the way to the World Series but came up short. The Diamondbacks need some pop in the middle of the lineup and Martinez could fill the need plus he already has experience in the organization.
It's unclear where he will land but it's clear that he will have choices after a strong season in Los Angeles.
